Proposal to save Marsden Point refinery has been rejected

Energy Minster Megan Woods has made a case for intervening in the closure of Marsden Point refinery, suggesting discussions with Refining NZ on a loan or underwriting deal that could ensure the refinery stayed open for perhaps five or 10 years.

However, the Cabinet has decided not to continue with such talks and preparations for conversion of the refinery to importing pre-refined fuels remain on track.
