Chinese teapot refiner awards contract for residual upgrading unit

Sinochem Hongrun Petrochemical has awarded a contract to ExxonMobil to provide technology licensing for a grassroots residual upgrading unit at its 5Mta (100Kbd) refining and petrochemical complex in the Binhai Economic-Technological Development Area of Weifang City, Shandong Province, China.

The new upgrader, which will be equipped to process about 1.2Mta (24Kbd) of vacuum residue feedstock to enable production of high-quality liquid products, including transportation fuels, chemical feedstocks, and fuel gas, is currently in its engineering design phase and scheduled for start-up in 2020.

Alongside its 3.5Mta (70Kbd) heavy asphalt and 1.5Mta (30Kbd) distillation units the Sinochem Hongrun’s complex is equipped with a 1.4Mta (28Kbd) and 0.6Mta catalytic cracking.
